2021 Road Safety Campaign

Published in 21 January, 2021

Dear community,

With over 4,000 registered vehicles in KAUST and an additional >2,500 vehicles entering KAUST every working day, our KAUST roads are busier than we may think.

Whether you walk, bike, or drive a vehicle, scooter, or golf cart in KAUST, you share the road with other road users, including pedestrians of all age groups. We are committed to Keeping KAUST Safe on the roads, and need every road user’s safe actions to support that commitment.

The Road Safety Campaign starts on January 24

In support of a safe culture on our roads, the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department, in collaboration with Security, is launching the Keeping KAUST Safe – Road Safety Campaign. The campaign will consist of different phases, and aims to raise awareness and appropriate behavior on the KAUST roads. During the first phase, beginning the week of January 24, we will promote a set of safety rules and etiquette to encourage a culture of safe behaviors. To achieve this goal, HSE staff and Security Officers will be visible at locations in KAUST to check compliance and educate road users.

The bookmarks, shown below, illustrate the safety behaviors that we want to promote on KAUST roads. During the first phase of the campaign, HSE and Security will distribute these bookmarks during patrols, using it as an educational tool to communicate key safety messages to our community. Also, children will have a road safety dedicated session in the classroom where they will get the opportunity to discuss road safety and ask questions about a bookmark topic.

The KAUST Vehicle and Traffic Safety Policy describes the driving rules and regulations road users need to follow to ensure everyone moves safely around KAUST. I would encourage you to review this document as it contains useful information to Keep KAUST Safe.

For more information about road users’ general requirements and responsibilities in KAUST, rules, and regulations for vehicles and bicycles, traffic monitoring and enforcement criteria, visit the KAUST Vehicle and Traffic Safety Policy, or contact us at hse@kaust.edu.sa.

Thanks for all you do to Keep KAUST Safe.

Sincerely,

Erik Talley, Director
Health, Safety, & Environment
