Tips For Off-Road Trips

As the weather gets cooler and more people enjoy outdoor activities, including taking off-road trips, it is good to refresh the community on the following safety tips.

Community Safety Tips

01

Read and follow all equipment operating instructions for proper use.

02

Share the details of your trip plan with an on-campus point of contact:

  • The duration of the trip
  • The expected return time to KAUST
  • Contact numbers of the group going with you
  • Share your location updates frequently with the point of contact

The point of contact should contact KAUST Emergency (dial 911 from a KAUST landline and 012 808 0911 from a mobile phone) if you did not return to KAUST at the expected return time, and they cannot reach you on your mobile number.

03

Plan your route. Unexpected conditions and problems can be avoided by asking someone who has taken the route before for information about the route.

Know the type of drive terrain you plan to take (soft sand, beach sand, gravel road, mud, etc.). Almost all off-road terrains require a 4×4 vehicle.

04

Make sure to have more than enough water in each car. It is recommended to take 3.5 liters per adult per day x 2.

05

  • Deflate your tires to 15 PSI
  • Make sure the car is on four-wheel drive high
  • Establish two-way communication between vehicles

06

At least one of the cars should have the following recovery gear: A flashlight, tire deflator, tire pressure gauge, navigation device, tow strap, air compressor, jump starter cable, car jack, and basic first aid kit

Thank You For Doing Your Part To Stay Safe When Taking Off-Road Trips Outside KAUST.
